Bleed Clothing

HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY

In the heart of Upper Franconia, in the tranquil textile forge Helmbrechts, bleed has its origins - and remains rooted there to this day. The label was founded in 2008 by local and skateboarder Michael Spitzbarth, who worked as a freelancer for various clothing companies after studying textile design. During this time he got a good insight into the machinations of the textile industry, which is why it was clear to him that something had to change.

Nature had bled enough and it had to stop. And so not only the name but also the brand was born.

With the support of friends and family, Michael got to work on the first collections. His goal, both then and now, was to lead people of all ages to the green way of living using good style, without disapproving or pointing the finger. 10 years on, bleed has established itself firmly on the green market and its team has grown. Our team is now over 10 in number. Together we design, test and market clothing which has to both fulfil our requirements for sport and look good in everyday life. From the very beginning, we have always been in search of special materials. We also use these materials in unconventional ways for innovative, functional and extraordinary products. Through cooperations with organisations who share our passions for nature, people, animals and sports, we can pursue our mission and support each other.

Alongside a lifestyle characterised by sustainability, we're all connected to each other through one other passion. Everyone behind bleed, no matter how young or old, big or small, male or female, has a shared love: sport. Whether its skating, surfing, snowboarding, skiing, biking, longboarding or running. Sport belongs in our life like water in the sea and nature is our self-professed favourite playground. So we don't just allow our life's blood and passion to flow into our collections, we also bring in various experiences from the world of sport.

In the end, to be sure that all of our products meet our own high expectations and therefore also satisfy our customers, they must first of all pass our own tests. This means either being worn on the board in the city skate park, jogging through the Helmbrechts Wood, climbing in Franconian Switzerland or surfing at beaches around the world. bleed products are our constant companions and have to withstand any situation, even braving the bad weather.

PRODUCTS

Products that inspire a sustainable lifestyle. Bleed is the answer for passionated urban and outdoor users who want to combine style, functional performance and sustainabilty from head to toe.

MANUFACTURING

Bleed uses a wide variety of exciting materials with the goal of returning fibres back into the circulatory system.

Natural and biodegradable fibres are cultivated through sustainable forestry and without use of pesticides or herbicides. When designing high-functional products with synthetic materials, the separation of fabrics at the end of a long product life is always kept in mind to enable easy recycling processes and give a new life to the materials.

By "Organic" we mean all biodegradable materials, which we always produce without harmful substances, i.e. without chemicals that are harmful to the environment or health. So without herbicides and pesticides in cultivation or chromium, heavy metals and formaldehyde when dyeing clothes. We only use certified, non-toxic and environmentally safe dyes. As far as the equipment is concerned, we don't use any chemicals either, neither through anti-crease agents nor through shrinkage protection in the T-shirt.

Bleed is a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified company. GOTS is a standard for the processing of organically produced natural fibers and contains both high environmental requirements and extensive social criteria. But not only the brand itself, but also numerous products are certified. A product can only be certified if the entire production chain from cultivation to the finished product is certified. This includes material extraction, spinning, sizing and weaving or knitting, all pre-treatment and wet treatment steps, dyeing, printing, finishing and additional fiber materials, trimmings and accessories.

We ship plastic-free and without advertising flyers. The goods are packed in a cardboard box. This cardboard is recycled and recyclable and is responsibly sourced.

EMISSIONS

Every product leaves an ecological footprint on earth. This includes the released carbon dioxide. In the case of longer transport routes, e.g. with our functional jackets that come from Asia, we completely compensate for the CO2 emissions incurred during transport with ClimatePartner. In addition, we save transport routes and reduce CO² emissions by producing fiber and fabric wherever possible in the same country as production.

88% of our products are produced in Europe to avoid long delivery routes.

Our Sympatex jackets from the Autumn/Winter 2017/18 collection was the first climate-compensated functional jacket on the market with ClimatePartner. We are very proud of this!

For overland transports, we do not commission any transport companies only for our shipments, but join forces with other producers to avoid sending half-empty trucks. We send to all end customers with DHL GoGreen, which guarantees climate-neutral shipping.

We only do shootings at locations that can be reached by car with a travel time of less than one day.

ENERGY & WASTE

Every dyeing process and impregnation involves a certain use of chemicals. It is important here that the critical substances do not come into contact with people or the environment, or that critical substances are replaced by alternatives. There are biological sewage treatment plants as closed circuits for the waste water, in which used water and chemicals can be treated again.

GOTS certification means all the social and environment compliance-related criteria (chemical waste management, waste water discharge, fire safety, etc.) are followed.

GIVING BACK

Bleed loves to experiment and develop, and has done so in several sustainable projects already:

E.g. cork leather jacket, first climate-compensated functional jacket, recycled and functional gloves together with Zanier, which was given the Sustainability Achievement and Winner Awards by ISPO.)"

We are running repair workshops on a regular basis in our headquarters.

When designing high-functional products with synthetic materials, the separation of fabrics at the end of a long product life is always kept in mind from the birth of a product to enable easy recycling processes and give a new life to the materials in the future.
