Sustainability

Have you ever thought about how and where you choose to live can affect your happiness and mental well being? Many of us have experienced the struggle of living in big cities. Since they are loud, busy and crowded, they are often difficult places to manage stress and your overall health.

The Fair Cottage believes not only in promoting environmental consciousness, but also in maintaining a healthy and balanced mindset, wherever you live. Thank goodness there is yoga!

Yoga: Mental and Environmental Balance

Practicing yoga can help us to deal with our problems and the world around us. It is a tool for slowing down and connecting with your environment, bringing together physical and mental discipline to help you relax, manage stress and reduce anxiety. Across cultures and oceans, yoga’s principles are affecting a global change.

Picking the most sustainable leggings, yoga-mat or sports bag can be stressful. But stress no more! The Fair Cottage brings you our top sustainable Yoga products for guilt free shopping and prana boosting.

Girlfriend Collective

This designers of this brand describe themselves as Earth's number one fan. They demonstrate this by delivering their products in 100% recyclable packaging. Their LITE leggings line is manufactured with ECONYL®, a fibre made from recycled fishing nets and other waste that would otherwise be discarded in oceans or landfills

They also manufacture using recycled polyester from bottles collected in Taiwan. One pair of leggings repurposes plastic from 25 post-consumer water bottles, with workout tops requiring 11 recycled bottles. All of this helps to reduce plastic waste that would otherwise be destined for landfill.

As if that was not enough, each and every piece is accredited by both Oeko-Tex and Bluesign. These certifications regulate the usage of environmentally harmful substances and process during clothing manufacture.

YOLOHA Yoga Mats

Yoloha is an American family business that offers unique yoga mats and gear, handmade from cork. Not a single tree needs to be felled in the processing of this material. Rather, the bark is stripped by hand every 9 years, which is pretty cool since cork trees live up to 300 years! How is that for sustainable?

The brand guarantees zero cork wastage during manufacturing, thanks to the fact that cork residues can be granulated to create other products. On top of that, all items are shipped using only 100% recycled or recyclable cardboard and paper, resulting in zero plastic usage.

Rose Buddha Pineapple Bags

Also producing leggings made of recycled plastic bottles are Rose Buddha, a Canadian brand founded by two friends, who partner with Tree Canada, a charity dedicated to bolstering the country’s urban forests.

As well as producing long lasting, sustainable yoga gear Rose Buddha offer sports bags made with pineapple leaves, a byproduct of the fruit’s production which are typically burned or left to decompose. Every year, the pineapple industry produces 40,000 tons of excess pineapple leaves globally.

Pinatex, the fabric derived from this waste, is a far less pollutive alternative to typical plastic based vegan leather, popularly known as pleather. Manufacturing with Pinatex is highly ethical since the material’s production does not require any pesticides or fertiliser, and no animals are sacrificed or mistreated in its processing.
